Grip Puppies Installation on a PC800

After some bad hand cramps from the grips on my Honda Pacific Coast I decided to grab a pair of Grip Puppies from California Sport Touring. For my bike with stock grips I went with the small size designed to fit 7/8″ grips.  The grips have been PERFECT since I installed those Grip Puppies.  No more hand cramps even on 200 mile rides.  I might not even need to pony up the money for a Cramp Buster now.

The package with the Grip Puppies.  Nothing too fancy.  Just a manila envelope, some paperwork and instructions, and the Grip Puppies.

The Grip Puppies on the throttle.  Note the bulge at the right end of the rubber.  That is where the grip proper ends and the handlebar weight starts.  I opted to not cut it down to size.  Now I have a nice area to put my hand to relax it in the event of a cramp.

The left side before I put it on.  It was a real rodeo to get it on the left grip for some reason.  I used hot soapy water to act as a lubricant and help get it on.  The instructions that came with the Grip Puppies recommended this method.

The finished product.  Never again will I have cramped hands from too-small grips!

  1. I also have a white PC800. I noticed the coolant access door is missing. you can get the parts at
You would need item 1,3,4,5,9 & 24. This includes a strap that the door hands on when opened. I used this site to order a complete meter panel cover, as the previous owner had the radio jacked and it was all busted up.

    1. Hi Peter,

Thanks for the information! I got a coolant access door and retaining strap off E-Bay a few months ago. The bike looks much better now 🙂 I know that the access cover is a commonly lost item on our bikes. Your info will help many PC800 riders.

Another place to get parts (if for some reason you don’t like cheapcycleparts) is https://www.servicehonda.com/. That’s the place I first got some parts from. The next order I might try out CheapCycleParts to see how they compare.

Are you aware of the http://www.pc800.net listserv?

  2. I can’t seem to get the right grip to come off. Is there a trick to removing it? The left one just slides off.

    1. I haven’t tried taking my grip puppies off yet. Mine have slowly started backing themselves off though. Probably some soapy water injected between the grip puppy and the stock grip would help.
