- Snowshoeing Around Brainard Lake – A great day out in the snow.
- Chinaman’s Gulch – A very difficult 4×4 trail in a bone stock 1st gen 4runner with bald tires. One dent later, it was a great time!
- First 4×4 Foray with the New 4runner – I traded up from my plucky little golden 4runner to a huge built white 4runner.
- North Table Mountain Spring Hike – We saw a little rattlesnake on our hike.
- Grand Junction Over Memorial Day – We went out to Grand Junction to visit my aunt and check out a few places.
- Sunset at Sunset Ranch – Watching the sun go down.
- Piñon Mesa and Into Utah – We drove up Piñon Mesa and then headed toward Utah looking for the Dolores River.
- Doberman Love – My aunt Joyce has two lovely dobermans.
- Rattlesnake Canyon Arches – We went on the ATVs and checked out some great arches hidden down in Rattlesnake Canyon.
- Grand Mesa in the Snow – Instead of great hiking trails, we found great snowshoeing opportunities. Note to self: bring snowshoes before July if visiting Grand Mesa.
- Uncompahgre Plateau Reconnaissance – We went up and checked out the Uncompahgre Plateau for future visits. It’s an AMAZING place.
- Gateway – We visited the tiny little town of Gateway where a destination resort has started to revitalize the area.
- Colorado National Monument – We took a quick little trip along the rim rock through the monument in the evening.
- Rocky Mountain National Park Birthday Extravaganza – We visited the park and went on a hike with friends in part to celebrate our birthdays.
- The Loch – A great hike up a creek to a beautiful lake.
- Sunset From Moraine Park – The view from our campsite was pretty incredible in the evening.
- Trail Ridge Road – Up and over the top of the park to the west side.
- Grand Lake for Ice Cream – A quick stop in Grand Lake for some ice cream.
- Chinns Lake, Fall River Reservoir, and Yankee Hill – A 4×4 foray for dinner not far from Golden.
- Barbour Fork with Rising Sun – A great trip with 19 Toyotas up the Barbour Fork trail.
- Yankee Hill Explorations – We explored the north side of Yankee Hill and found a river running over the road.
- Argentine Basin Cleanup Run and McLellan Mountain – We went up with Rising Sun to pick up some garbage among other things.
- Argentine Pass – We drove up to the continental divide on an old wagon road.
- Ghost Town Run – A weekend with Rising Sun 4×4 out toward St. Elmo
- Hancock Pass – The first pass of the day on Saturday.
- Mary Murphy Mine – We caught up with the rest of the Rising Sun 4×4 group at the old mine and checked out the middle ore tram terminal.
- St. Elmo – It was a ghost town at one point in time but with all of the new construction and other activity, it sure seems lively now.
- Tin Cup Pass – A beautiful but busy pass that we went over.
- Cumberland Pass – A pretty little pass with an easy railroad grade.
- Splish Splash – My truck taking a bath.
- Tomichi Pass – Going up this pass was much more exciting than I expected thanks to some narrow very off camber shelf road.
- Tomichi – The old townsite and mining district are interesting places to explore.
- Old Monarch Pass – The last crossing of the continental divide on this trip.
- Kingston Peak and Yankee Hill with Jaime and Franziska – With Jaime and her friend Franziska in town, I knew that we had to go check out some 4x4ing trails for a little adventure.
- Sherwin Lake, Chinn’s Lake, Fall River Reservoir, and Loch Lomond Before the Storm – We headed up to see some water and got a little more than we bargained for.
- The Mine Below McClellan Mountain – We checked out an old mine on the back side of McClellan Mountain with some friends.
- Posing at the Rising Sun 4×4 Meeting – Just a little posing in the parking lot of the local Toyota dealer.
- Second Annual Mega Magnolia Transect – After last year’s rousing success, we were even more ambitious this year with our transect between I-70 and Nederland.
- Redcone, Radicall Hill, and Georgia Pass Plus a Couple Goats – We found a herd of mountain goats on top of the mountain!
- Wheeler Lake – We went up to the lake with our friends leading the way.
- North Twin Cone Peak – The aspen were in full golden force as we headed up to the communications towers on top of the north peak of Twin Cone.
- Front Axle Rebuild on the 4runner – We nearly had a catastrophic steering linkage failure!
- Mile High Stadium – I got to tour the Mile High Stadium in Denver.
- Chasing the Cumbres and Toltec – We spent a weekend with the Rising Sun 4×4 Club riding and chasing the train!
- Cumbres and Toltec: Antonito, Colorado in the Morning – Watching the trains steam up at Antonito before we jumped on a bus to head to the other end of the line.
- Cumbres and Toltec: Chama, New Mexico – After taking the bus over the state line, we got on the train to head back north.
- Cumbres and Toltec: From Chama to Cumbres Pass – Up to the pass on a double-header.
- Cumbres and Toltec: From Cumbres Pass to Antonito – Heading down into Colorado.
- Cumbres and Toltec: Chasing the Train – We chased the morning train up the mountain in our 4x4s.
- Heading North Toward Summitville – After chasing the train, we headed north toward Denver via Summitville and a few places in between.
- Summitville Ghost Town – The old mining town of Summitville is an interesting place to poke around in for a few minutes.
- Camping Above Del Norte – We found a great place to spend the night.
- Natural Volcanic Arch – We stumbled upon a really interesting volcanic arch in the middle of the desert.
- Exploring the Saguache Range – After the arch, we traipsed through the Saguache to check out some forgotten areas that don’t get many visitors.
- Voyages in West Central Colorado – We took a long weekend to explore the western parts of the central section of Colorado.
- Marshall Pass – We went over the old Denver and Rio Grande Railroad grade on our way to the west.
- Black Canyon of the Gunnison – What a very pretty crack in the ground!
- Evening at Black Canyon of the Gunnison – A gorgeous evening in a gorgeous place.
- Crystal Mill – A beautiful little mill perched precariously on a cliff.
- Schofield Pass – This rough bit of trail is a fun route to traverse on the way between Crystal Mill and Crested Butte.
- Heading Down into Crested Butte – After coming over the pass, we headed down into Crested Butte to refuel and check out the town.
- Up on the Paradise Divide – We headed up onto the Paradise Divide to camp for the evening.
- Italian Creek and the Reno Divide – This seldom used trail between Crested Butte and Taylor Park is a beautiful way to go.
- Taylor Pass – Heading on up to the top of the pass so we can go to Aspen.
- Richmond Hill and Aspen Mountain – WOW what an amazing view! The Maroon Bells and other mountains are stunning.
- Maroon Bells – One of the quintessential photos of Colorado now with 100% more truck!
- Hagerman Pass – We watched a fire being fought, saw a funny thing on the transmission line, and had a grand time heading east toward Leadville.
- A Colorado Corn Maze – After missing our third date five years ago, we finally made it to a corn maze.
- The Backside of Yankee Hill – We explored some new areas in a familiar place.
- The Super Moon on Yankee Hill – The Beaver Moon was huge this year!
