October Outings
- Crater Lake Hike with Jessica – We headed up to the James Peak Wilderness for a hike to the Crater Lakes.
- Hiking Through Frazer Meadow and up Ralston Roost in Golden Gate Canyon State Park – A great day hiking among aspen and sighting the continental divide.
- Autumn on Guanella Pass – The aspens have lost their leaves and the first snows of winter are already beginning to blanket the mountains.
- South Park in Autumn – The expansive South Park is stunning in its drab autumn colors.
- Como Colorado – An old sleepy railroad town at the foot of Boreas Pass.
- Over the top of Boreas Pass – We made it over the summit this time without getting stuck in the snow!
- Dinosaur Ridge – We went and walked in the footsteps of dinosaurs just a couple miles from our townhouse.
- Partial Solar Eclipse at the Colorado School of Mines – A great afternoon for some sun gazing.
- AIAA Conference in Colorado Springs – Three of my undergraduate students joined me for a conference where they presented posters and gave talks on their research.
- Diamond Lake Hike – A gorgeous subalpine lake just outside Nederland up the Fourth of July Trail made for a wonderful late season hike.
- Triceratops Trail – Tucked away in the Fossil Trace Golf Course is a little trail that leads to some remarkable dinosaur footprints and fossil leaf impressions.
November Activities
- A Dusting of Snow – We woke up to a dusting of snow.
- Lost Lake Trail – We went up to Lost Lake outside of Eldora and visited some old mining claims.
- Changing the Transmission and Differential Fluid in my Subaru Forester – After 20,000 miles it was time to change some of the fluids in my car.
- A Change in the Weather: Snow Comes to Campus – A quick-moving cold front came barreling through town.
- Snow Around Campus – A bit of beautiful snow around campus.
- Walking to Work in the Snow – With the snow coming down thick and fast, I decided to walk to work for fun.
- A Snowy Morning in Golden and On Campus – What a beautiful, crisp morning.
- Releasing a Mouse into the Snowy World – We caught a mouse under our sink and let it go outside.
- A Snowy Night on Campus – A quiet, peaceful, snowy night on campus.
- Night Snow – A beautiful snow night in Golden.
- Snow Flurries in the Afternoon – We had an unexpected snow flurry pass through Golden on an otherwise fine afternoon.
- Snowy Lower Apex Hike – After the Lower Apex Trail reopened this week from the floods, we went on a hike up to see the new bridges.
- A Vibrant Sunrise over Golden – What a gorgeous sunrise over our town!
- Apex Trail and Enchanted Forest Trail – We hiked all the way up Apex Trail and Enchanted Forest Trail through the snow.
- Thanksgiving in a Hangar – We had Thanksgiving dinner in a friend’s aircraft hangar.
- A Frozen Clear Creek – Once again, Clear Creek is frozen.
- Our Common Pleco, Dr. Krieger, is Getting BIG! – Our tiny little bottom feeding fish has gotten quite large the last six months.
- Ominous Weather – The weather took a turn for the ominous today.
December Happenings
- Kettlebell Swings – Getting fit for fun.
- Gray Apex Hike – A hike through Apex Park on a gray day.
- Olde Golden Christmas Parade – We went downtown to see the Christmas parade again this year. It’s always so much fun to see who comes out to the parade.
- A Dusting of Snow in Golden – We received a dusting of snow to remind us that it is winter.
- Getting Ready to Head to Oregon – Getting the Subaru ready to drive out to Oregon.
- Test Driving My Repaired Cello – After getting some repairs done to my cello, it sounds excellent.
