After a conference in Washington DC, I hopped aboard a plane bound for Iceland. I only could take six days and five nights off from my normal routine to tour Iceland which translated into a mad dash around the country trying to see all the sights in as an efficient manner as possible. A Toyota Yaris hatchback served as my mighty steed to explore glaciers, volcanoes, and massive rivers. I perfected my manual transmission techniques in downtown Reykjavik. I even had a hot dog at Iceland’s most popular restaurant. Yes, it is a hot dog stand.
There are a few different ways to follow along with my Icelandic tour. You can click on any of the pins on the above map to go to the related post. You can go to the first post in the series and move forward through time to see the rest by clicking here. Or you can go backwards in time by browsing the Iceland category on my blog. The adventure is up to you. Now go walk with the vikings!
Hi, Love your website. I am planning a trip to Iceland in March. I’m driving along the south coast and spending a few days in the Vatnajokull region. Also, driving to Sneafellness. Do I need a 4 WD or would a 2 WD suffice? What do you suggest?
Howdy Arun!
I did everything in a little 2WD hatchback with a manual transmission and didn’t have any problems. Most of the roads are paved or very good gravel.
Cheers!
Douglas
