  1. That “rather odd-looking manner” of palm tree trimming is standard throughout Mediterranean regions in the US. I have no clue why.

  2. I can tell you that palm trees aren’t trimmed this way on the south side of the Mediterranean very often! Suppose it does help keep kids from climbing the trees though…
