Trying to find an external fuel pump that is high pressure and under 10 amps is a real pain. It also needs to be able to pull a little bit of a vacuum as the pump will be just at the bottom of the tank but can’t be below it. That’s pretty much impossible to find used. My best options so far are a very early 80’s Toyota pump that doesn’t go up to a high enough pressure. Or a Ford F150/Econoline pump from 87-89 that is big enough but might need a low pressure feeder to it and probably takes too many amps.
There are several Carter and Bosch pumps that could work. Also a Delco pump. Details are here http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/minj.htm about 3/4 of the way down the page in the fuel pump section. Not sure if they all need to have some pressure going into them or not. The local wrecker might have a few of those types of cars that I could pull pumps from. It would also allow me to see if I can have the pump mounted above the fuel source or not.
Putting an in-tank pump in isn’t much of an option because I really REALLY don’t want to have to modify the PC800 tank. That would require some significant work to get the tank out and then modify it. I want this entire modification to be as minimally invasive as possible.
