Yet Another YouTube Fail

Another day, another YouTube/Google fail.  This time they have decided that a video I took of flood water passing under the Irish Bend Covered Bridge is not worthy of monetization.  Yet they still place ads on the page with my video.  Interestingly, unlike the video that was rejected outright from monetization, this video still has the option in the video manager on YouTube of re-enabling ads.  I wonder if I should try my luck and re-enable.

Google and YouTube continue to disappoint me.  If only Vimeo didn’t charge for their service.

  1. Why don’t you just host them on DreamHost? There are scads of flash-based player plugins that work with WordPress that’ll display your movies. And then we don’t have to hear whining about how you’re entitled to ad money 😉

    1. I used to host my content on a flash-based player plugin but it was incredibly cumbersome to convert content to the proper format and then load the video onto the site. Hosting off-site still makes me nervous for the potential of loosing my content.

With regards to ad revenue sharing, it only seems fair that if YouTube/Google is going to surround one of my videos with ads, they should at least give me a cut.

Posting this content here is so that others in a similar situation can find that they aren’t alone. If anything has been taught to us in the last several weeks it is that if there is enough noise about something on the internet, that something might get changed for the better. Perhaps Google will change their policies or at least make the process clearer and more transparent if enough people complain.

Also, you don’t have to read these posts about YouTube if you don’t want to 😉

    1. That’s the truth. Another problem with hosting my own videos is that they will very rarely be seen. I’d at least like a few people to see the videos. 🙂
