Historic Silver Falls Days and the Logging Demonstration

We went over to Silver Falls State Park to see the Historic Silver Falls Days.  And as part of it, we went to the logging demonstration.

They had some really large old chainsaws on display.

Running an older chainsaw to go through a big log.

Getting this old gas powered chop saw going.

My dad actually met a couple of old timers on the Sierra National Forest back in the 1970s who were still using one of these saws professionally to chop up huge sugar pine trees to take back to their mill where they made shingles.  Now you’ll only see one of these run at a logging demonstration day.

They had a huge line up of old chainsaws including a couple that look like the one that my dad used for 40 years before he finally retired it.  Those old blue Homelite saws would run and run and run.

After checking out the logging demonstration, we went on part of the big waterfall hike.

There are a lot of really beautiful waterfalls in Silver Falls State Park.
