I rode down to Parkfield on my Honda Pacific Coast to see the most geologically active (from an earthquake perspective) place in California. This bridge spans a creek that runs along the San Andreas Fault. The fault moves a few inches every year.
The little town of Parkfield is at the extreme southeast end of Monterey County and it takes a few hours from Monterey to reach. There is a back road over the mountains that is paved which I took. There’s another back road that’s gravel partway which I will need to try in a car — my road bike is not setup for gravel 😅.
The little restaurant and venue at Parkfield is quite good. In the summer I imagine this place is pretty hopping but in the late fall it was pretty quiet.
