I took a quick ride up Lookout Mountain at lunch today before the thunderstorms rolled in from the high country. It was a good ride although I ran out of gas just as I pulled into the gas station near the park and ride lots at the top of the ridge between Golden and Morrison.
Heather and I took the Yamaha XS1100 Special out for a ride up I-70 to the Central City Parkway, through Central City and Blackhawk, and then down Clear Creek Canyon back to Golden. The weather was good but we got cold at the top of the parkway where it gets close to 9000 feet above sea level.
The XS1100 is running well aside from the octopus vacuum petcock not functioning. The next time I am low on gas, I will remove the tank and attempt surgery on that petcock to get it fully functional with my spare parts collection. Good thing the manual petcocks have a “reserve” setting that bypasses the octopus petcock!
