Boosted!

Just got my booster. This time it was a Pfizer shot that we were able to get. Otherwise we would have had to wait for several weeks or up to a month before we could get a Moderna shot. Now we’ll see how long before we need another booster…

Meet Oliver!

Over the last several months, we’ve seen this big tuxedo kitty hanging around outside. We saw his owners once maybe nine months ago. At the time they called him Ofius. From what we could tell, his parents left Monterey maybe six months ago and left the poor kitty behind.

He had a collar with a tracking tag but the tag was dead and there was no way to get information out of it. We had to loosen it several time We had his chip scanned and he was in the system. However, when the SPCA tried to contact the owners, the number was dead and there wasn’t enough information for the SPCA to identify the family. In the SPCA’s system his name was Mr. Steele.

We took him to our vet to get checked out and had all his shots updated. The SPCA had given him his initial set back in the fall of 2019 when he was a kitten.

We then initiated a transfer of his chip information to us with the SPCA. After a few weeks, the news came back that we’re now his parents! Now introducing…

Mr. Oliver Ofius Steele Van Reiff!

I understand that he will complete his doctorate soon.

The First Atmospheric River of the Year at Forked Meadow

The first big atmospheric river of the year hit Forked Meadow over October 24-25. We got about six inches of precipitation throughout the storm which helped to start recharging our greatly depleted water table after the severe drought this past water year. So here are a ton of photos of the entire atmospheric river from start to finish over the course of several days!

I walked around the meadows before the storm rolled in checking out the fall colors.

The garage is finished and we tucked away the equipment inside before the rain picked up. But then it really started dumping.

Toward the end of the storm it started to snow. We ended up with several inches of heavy, wet snow on top of the rain. The meadows and forest got a proper soaking and the creek started flowing again after more than two months with no water.

The meadows are gorgeous with a fresh coat of snow!

Another beautiful day after the atmospheric river has passed.

A curious bear got into the wellhouse looking for somewhere to hibernate during the atmospheric river He took a couple claw swipes at the insulation cover over the pressure tank before he left looking for somewhere better.

We did some pile burning now that burn season is on and everything is thoroughly soaked.
