The view from the Science and Learning Center at Coldwater was the closest most people could get to Mount St. Helens from the west for many years after the eruption. Once Johnston Ridge Observatory was built, the facility at Coldwater fell by the wayside.
This was once a bustling visitor center. Now it is almost completely empty. The lone ranger on duty said that they are planning to run educational programs from the facility in the near future.
