High Sierra Ranger Station

On our way to some of the reservoirs at the end of the road, we stopped at the High Sierra Ranger Station.  If I ever was going to be a ranger somewhere, this would be the place.

The housing they have for staff has one of the best views I’ve ever seen.

This is the view from the back deck of the ranger station.  WOW!

The Portal Powerhouse

We stopped at the Portal Powerhouse at the outlet of Ward Tunnel.  This is part of the large hydro project that Southern California Edison has in this area.

They weren’t pushing too much water through when we visited but this really must crank when they’re running it full tilt.

Cutting Down a Few Trees at Camp El-O-Win

We went over to Camp El-O-Win to cut down a few standing dead trees that were killed by the drought and beetle infestations that are to be used for lumber around camp.

Sometimes a tree needs a gentle touch to be felled.

These were healthy trees a couple years ago before the drought and beetles did their work.

Bucking the tree to get it ready for the guy who will come in with a portable sawmill to turn these logs into lumber.

It was fun felling a couple trees for the camp!
