We went on a hike up the narrows at Zion on the Virgin River. It’s an amazing hike through shallow water running down the deep canyon.
The canyon gets narrow in a hurry.
Heading on up the river!
The canyon is getting narrower.
This is a deeper part of the narrows. The water came up to Heather’s knees.
A little wider spot on the river.
Beautiful, glistening and shimmering rock walls above the river.
Looking up at the rim rock far above.
Another selfie further in the narrows.
Walking through another deeper spot in the canyon. Even though the water levels weren’t very high when we were in the canyon, you can see evidence everywhere of how high the water goes in flash flood conditions.
We found this beautiful mini-garden partway up the canyon. These little plants get washed away with every major flood but always grow back.
This sure is a gorgeous place to hike.
A little waterfall coming down into the canyon.
There are so many interesting facets to the narrows.
We went up a little side canyon for a ways before turning around to head down. There were other people still heading up the main branch of the Virgin River as we went down and it was already getting pretty late in the day. Hopefully they turned around soon so they weren’t stuck up in the canyon in the dark!
Looking straight up in one of the narrower spots of the canyon. It’s pretty crazy how narrow these canyons can be!
