Alice Springs Telegraph Station

The Alice Springs Telegraph Station just north of the metropolis of Alice Springs was the epicentre of the massive changes that occurred across the red centre of Australia.  With information and access to the outside world comes massive change.

The old telegraph office.

The line coming from the south.

A cot for the telegrapher on duty.

Telegraph equipment.

An old method of measuring evaporation rates.

The blacksmith shop.

The schoolhouse.

A gun port for when trouble was afoot.

The riverbed and wet spot that was declared “Alice Springs.”

For Queen and Country!

Stitching an empire together.

National Road Transport Hall of Fame

One of the original Ghan Line trains sitting outside of the railway museum.

The expedition’s destination.

The National Road Transport Hall of Fame is every road train enthusiast’s dream come true.

Perhaps a Canadian truck?
