Gray Apex Hike

I took a hike up Apex Park on a particularly gray day in Golden.

There was a whole herd of deer in the park.

And then I ran into a big herd of elk!

There were close to 60 animals on both sides of the trail.  I made a bunch of noise to make sure they knew I was coming and to move them off the trail.

Sometimes this elk herd comes down into our neighborhood.

Apex Trail and Enchanted Forest Trail

20141128_102621

We went for a long hike up Apex Trail and Enchanted Forest Trail through the snow.  Many bridges (I don’t think this one) were replaced recently in the final stages of the repair of Apex Park after the flooding that occurred in the fall of 2013.

Snowy Lower Apex Hike

IMG_20141127_095216

Heather and I hiked up the lower part of Apex Trail in Apex Park just a few days after it opened.  The trail had been closed for a little over a year after the big floods in the fall of 2013.  Now there are a number of new bridges and rerouted trail segments.  Also on odd days there is only uphill travel on this trail for mountain bikes.
