Overnight in Cloncurry

The expedition halted on the outskirts of Cloncurry for the night.  An advanced detachment of men went into town to procure provisions and supplies.  The local Woolworths was particularly instrumental in restocking the canteens of the expedition.

Further West

As the sun sank low in the west, the expedition marched forward.

A herd of cows.

A homestead on the horizon.

Beware of cows.

A long, lonesome train carrying tank cars linked together with pivoting pipes.

Passing through a small town in the middle of nowhere.

The school.

The microwave tower bringing communication with the outside world.

Back on the lonesome highway.

An actual curve in the road!

No flooding on the day we passed through.

Our first ant hill sighting.

Road Trains and a Road House

We encountered our first real road trains parked outside a small hamlet in the great flat of northern Queensland.

These were cattle haulers.  Two levels of cows.

A small four-pump petrol station where we took on supplies before continuing west.
