The way to work

The street that I live on in Ultimo.  Most housing that I’ve seen in the inner Sydney area is comprised of little two and three story buildings that are pressed up against each other.  I live in an apartment building which makes it unique compared to the other buildings nearby.  Everything else (like in the left side of this photo) is more townhouse style.

Heading down the hill toward one of the main roads and toward the University of Sydney.

In the mornings when I walk to work, I don’t see many other people.  It seems most don’t emerge from their houses until after about 9am.  I like to be out and about a little before 8am.  The sun rises at 6 or 6:30am so there is no reason not to be enjoying it.  Especially since it sets at 5pm!

Looking at Victoria Park across the highway from close to my office.  It’s a great green park to stroll through.

My office is just around the corner to the right.  Notice what side people are driving on?  Yeah, the wrong side.

Walking back home to Ultimo.  Downtown Sydney is where the skyscrapers are located.  Chinatown is in between me and downtown.

My apartment in Sydney

This is my bedroom.  My boss lent me some sheets.  Otherwise, everything else came with the room.

The living room.  There is a MASSIVE TV just barely in the photo on the right.  It is quite useful for watching the world cup.  To the left is where the toilet and shower are located (in separate rooms).

The kitchen and dining area.

Aside from me there are three other people living in the apartment at the moment but soon it will only be two as two of the roommates who share a room are going to leave and only one new roommate will be sought.  For eight weeks, this place isn’t too bad.

My office at the University of Sydney

I share “the dungeon” with about a dozen graduate students and post docs in the Faculty of Architecture, Design, and Planning.  This is looking at the space from the door.  My desk is in the foreground on the right where the laptop is sitting.

Sometime when I come into the office in the morning, one of the PhD students is asleep on this couch.  He lives in the office when he doesn’t want to walk home.

This is my desk.  The previous occupant left a bunch of old books.  If any of them were worthwhile, I’d read them.  But who really wants to learn how to code in HTLM from a book that was last published in the mid 90’s?

There are some odd things stored in the office such as this crutch and a hard hat.  No one knows who any of it belongs to.

This is a typical student desk.  It can get pretty messy.  In that respect, Australian students are a lot like American students.

This is where Wanda, the other American on a short-term stay, sits.  She wasn’t in the office yet when I took these photos.

More strange things that no one knows where they came from or what they were used for.
