The Oregon Trail Interpretive Center

STA_2672 - STH_2679

Heather and I stopped off at the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center run by the BLM outside of Baker City, Oregon on our way back to Colorado.  We tried to visit the center a little over a year ago but the center was closed by the time we reached it.

The area is absolutely spectacular.

Around Baker City

The Bank of America in Baker City is classy.

One street off of the main drag.

Along the side of the Geiser Grand Hotel.

The main thoroughfare to Baker City.

 Our hotel.

Chinese and English.  Just like it was 150 years ago.

Hipster central or just behind the times?

The Gothic sky scraper in the middle of town.

City Hall.

 The old post office.

 What a staircase!

 The newspaper in the area.

Not much outfitting going on in this outfitter shop.

The Geiser Grand Hotel

Looking east as the sun rises from our room on the 3rd floor of the Geiser Grand Hotel.

The top of the grand staircase.

 Nice carpet.

The stained glass ceiling over the grand dining room.

The 2nd floor mezzanine and library with the dining room below.

 The bottom of the stairs.

It is a rather awkward dining room.

Nice hotel.  A bit overbearing on the upselling.  We didn’t try the food though.  There is a brew pub just down the street!
