Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me at Red Rocks

Heather and I headed over to Red Rocks Amphitheater for a live taping of Wait Wait Don’t Tell me, the NPR news quiz.  Had we known the traffic would be such a nightmare, we would have ridden our bicycles or walked.

Up the steps and into the amphitheater.  Becky saved us some seats.  We were JUST in time for the start of the show.

Looking down on the stage.  This might be the biggest crowd that the cast of Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me has ever performed in front of.

The lights come on as the sun sinks in the west.

Orediggers vs Metro State Women’s Soccer

IMG_2349

After this morning’s Gobble Wobble 5k fun run, Becky and I headed over to the Mines soccer field to watch the Orediggers play Metro State.  We lost 3-1 but our women played hard.

These guys had their chests painted and kept their shirts off the whole game.  Considering we had 40 mph wind gusts, they were real troopers!

This stadium has million dollar views.

The Great American Beer Festival (and some trains)

STA_1777-STK_1787

On the way to the Great American Beer Festival, I changed trains on the Denver light rail system next to a big Union Pacific Railroad engine yard.  There must have been close to 100 big diesel locomotives idling in the yard.

Out side the Colorado Convention Center, there were all manner of beer trucks parked.  The Left Hand Brewing Company uses a limo to transport beer.

The parking garage on this high rise has an interesting set of flapping metal squares.  It creates a pixel effect when the wind blows.

Waiting in line to get into the beer hall.  Becky had a spare ticket and invited me along to drink some good beer.

Batman says PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY.

There were bagpipers playing as we all marched into the building to start tasting beer from around the USA.

In the main hall.  There were thousands of beers available.

One of the breweries had a chapel setup and were in fact performing weddings.  I’m pretty sure that we didn’t actually get married.

A roving band of bagpipers made trips through the various aisles.

There was a mobile barbershop setup in the hall.  This is the “before” picture.  I decided to get my beard trimmed.
