On the Road in Belgium

Chris driving through the countryside.

A Belgian traffic jam.  Everyone got out of their cars at one point and started chatting.

A crossing for animals over the highway.  The deer in the photo is actually a metal cutout.  And those are real live trees on top of the overpass.

Another wildlife overpass.

Lost in Brussels

Chris and I got lost trying to go from Antwerp to The Netherlands.  We ended up driving around and through Brussels before we finally found a tunnel under a river and made good on our Belgian escape.  Here are a couple photos we snapped from the car.

Antwerp and Locked Garages

The highlight of Antwerp was walking around the old downtown.  The Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal cathedral dominates the city.  Late afternoon and some clouds made for a magnificent backdrop and lighting to get a few snaps.

Some of the old merchant and guild houses.

We found another free wireless signal to check email and update our statuses online.

Some modern art on the waterfront.

More old guild houses.  We never saw it but somewhere around the area all of the diamond shops are supposed to be located.  When we got to the parking garage we discovered that our car had been locked into the garage.  A very small sign with very small print near a booth in the garage said that it closed at 5 or 6.  It was about 8.  We had to call a number and pay a guy with a mullet 50 Euro to get our car out.  Chris nearly destroyed the car’s clutch slipping it like mad going up the tight ramps to get out of the garage.  We decided to drive to The Netherlands rather than hang out in Belgium.  Our plan was to find a nice park to sleep in.
