Frosty, cold day at Forked Meadow for skid steer maintenance

It was super frosty this morning with some remnants of the first snow of the season on the ground at Forked Meadow. First thing, I went out and changed the batteries and did other maintenance on our Ambient Weather station sensor array. Then we got to work on the bobcat skid steer. We put the snow blower back together again, and then we changed out the summer tracks for winter snow tracks. Now the bobcat is all set for winter snow blowing duty.

After that, I got to walk around the meadows and see how late fall is treating this wonderful, beautiful place.

Meandering in the Meadows and Fixing the Snow Blower

In the early morning, I walked around through the meadows as the sun started to rise. It’s been a very nice summer so far at 6000 feet.

Then later in the morning, my father and I worked on the snow blower attachment for the bobcat skid steer. The only way my parents are able to live up here full time is with that bobcat and the snow blower. Otherwise, the snow would get way too deep for any reasonable vehicle to make it in.

Last winter the motor for the auger on the blower started leaking. So we decided to pull the motor out of the snow blower and take it down to Fresno to get rebuilt. We’ll reinstall it later in the fall when I’m able to come up again.
