Zion – Dawn on the Virgin River

Our little camp along the Virgin River in Zion canyon gets sun late in the day because it’s so deep below the rim rock.

Dawn breaks on the rim high above Zion canyon!  That means it’s time to start up the stove and make some bacon.

It’s still dark on the north end of the canyon.

Our camp in the campground.  It was a great place to spend a few nights and witness a few dawns.

That warm November light spills into the canyon and makes the depths of the canyon warm.

Camping Above Del Norte

After coming down from Summitville, we found a nice place to camp at the edge of US Forest Service land.  The views to the north toward Del Norte were stunning.

Sunsets are spectacular here.  This is looking north toward Del Norte.

Our campsite for the evening.

Watching the last light fade away.

Our little propane campfire helped to keep us warm with the chilly night air descending down from the high country.

Camping in Skaftárhreppur

IMG_0622My bivouac sack away from home.  It is exactly big enough for me and nothing else.  I used the empty water bottles to help keep the tent fabric off of my sleeping bag.  That helped my sleeping bag stay more dry during the rainy nights in Iceland.
