Granite

Granite used to be a much larger town.  Now it is just a small collection of houses in the middle of nowhere.

Need a truck?  They were all for sale.

 A typical residence.

It looks a bit bigger than a dorm room.

The old dance hall.  It is for sale!

 The old general store.

There were many mobile homes with big roofs built over top.  I am guessing that it must be due to the snow load.

A store is still in operation at Granite.  I can only imagine how infrequently fresh vegetables get to this part of the world.

Abandoned Mine Buildings at the Cougar-Independence Mill Site

Driving along the forest road we spied this old mine building off to the side of the road.

This looks like it might have been an old stamp.

 Traces of an old building.

I crossed a creek and walked over some sketchy fallen building parts to get these photos.

It appears that the mine was across the road and up the mountain a bit.  These cables probably had carts that brought the ore down.
