Apex Park Hike

IMG_5751

I went hiking in Apex Park which is just a mile from my front door.  Why it took me so long to go hiking in the park, I don’t know.  Apex trail follows the canyon and once was a wagon road to the gold fields.

There are massive and extremely expensive houses on top of the mountain.

Beautiful area up here.

Thunderstorm coming in.  I ran down the mountain until I was low enough I didn’t feel vulnerable to lightning strikes.

Green Grass Hike with Melissa

Yesterday afternoon Melissa and I went out to McDonald-Dunn Forest for a hike.  We went up Extendo Trail from Oak Creek Research Station and back down Endo Trail.  The original plan was to try for McCullock Peak but that will have to wait for another day.  At least it was nice and cool in the forest.

There is a crazy profusion of grass in the forest this year.

We saw this banana slug trucking along across a fire road.  Not long after this guy, we saw another one that was twice as long.  Slugs are on the move in the forest.

Exploring Old Logging Roads with Heather at Oak Creek

The other day Heather and I took her dog Lilly for a walk out at Oak Creek.  We found these interesting vines with seed pods growing along the Homestead Trail.  I have no clue what they could be.

Lilly really enjoyed exploring a new place.

Heather and I enjoyed getting out of our respective routines.

I believe next time Heather is going to tell me to leave the camera in the car.

A bug trap setup by some scientists from the EPA by Oak Creek.  There were indeed bugs being caught by the device.
