This road was calling my name… so I decided to drive up it!
I drove up to a mountain tourist spot that was already closed for the season. People depart from this place in the summer to climb atop the Sólheimajökull glacier. The road up to the glacier was most certainly not designed for a 2WD Toyota Yaris. Nonetheless, my plucky little rental car made it up the mountain to the edge of the glacier!
The toe of the glacier. I wonder how close it got to the ocean a hundred years ago.
My car in the middle of nowhere. I’m glad I didn’t get a flat tire here!
An old path. During the season, there must be a bridge across this stream.
Another part of the weather station.
A panorama from the weather station.
An island of rock on the coastal plane.
Driving down the mountain.
More driving.
