Kerikeri

A boat on land!  I think it holds a restaurant.

The old settlement of Kerikeri.  These are some of the oldest buildings in New Zealand.

The road was washed away recently.  As of the last time I checked, Google still hasn’t updated their maps.

An old stone building once used as a store and trading post.

An old church.

Waitangi Treaty Grounds

The Waitangi Treaty Grounds played host to the drafting and initial signing of the Treaty of Waitangi and the Declaration of New Zealand Independence.  If only the Maori and English-language copies matched, things might have turned out a bit different in New Zealand.

The Maori treaty house.

Only big chiefs can sit here.

A HUGE canoe that was used once or twice for ceremonial purposes.

A smaller canoe chilling out next to the larger one.

Mount Bledisloe

Kiwi Crossing!  We never did see a kiwi during our entire stay in New Zealand.  Obviously this is a reason to go back.

Near the top of Mount Bledisloe.  I understand this is one of the higher points in this part of the world.

It is a long way to anywhere from here.

Old imperial units.

One of us was super serious.  The other, not so much.  You guess who is who.

Heading off to the next stop on this epic adventure tour.

Yes, that is a one-lane bridge on a major road.  Oh New Zealand.  You’re so quaint!
