On a fine Saturday morning in April, I decided to do the long hike down into Golden via Lookout Mountain. The route I took was about 12 miles total from start to finish.
Hiking up through Apex Park. The wildflowers were in bloom.
One of the new bridges installed after the flooding a few years back.
Still a few wisps of snow left around.
Up on top of Lookout Mountain. I wore my Vibram Five Fingers for this hike. My toes were a bit chilly from hiking through the snow drifts.
Big mountains in the distance on the continental divide.
Still lots of snow in the high country.
North Table Mountain through the trees.
Hogsbacks north of Golden.
South Table Mountain.
Heading down off of Lookout Mountain toward Golden.
Down Chimney Gulch.
Lots of flowers blooming and trees just starting to leaf out.
I encountered part of the local elk herd near the ditch at the top end of the old subdivision off 19th street.
Clear Creek in Golden was pretty high with snow melt.
There’s the Colorado School of Mines big M up on the hill.
