A few weeks ago I saw a good deal online for a ticket to the island archipelago nation of Vanuatu. Being a person who loves to visit new places, I booked the ticket, found a few activities to do in the country, and packed my bags. At the airport in Sydney I found myself boarding a nearly new Boeing 737-800 Air Vanuatu-branded jet. The pilots were both Australian while the flight attendance were all Ni-Vanuatu. The flight was mostly empty and the service was outstanding.
The flight path from Sydney to Vanuatu goes directly over New Caledonia. The man sitting next to the window was kind enough to let me have a front-row view of the scenery. New Caledonia is still French-owned and controlled.
Deforestation is happening across New Caledonia.
The wide, blue world.
An island in the middle of nowhere.
