Checking Out Newport

It’s always a great day when we visit Newport.  This is on the South Jetty looking out to sea.

Looking back into the harbor at Newport.  Yaquina Bay has always been one of our favorite spots.

The sea lions were relaxing on the dock on the Newport waterfront.

From the north side of the bridge looking over to the jetty fingers.

There’s that beautiful bridge!

Visiting the Tide Pools on Yaquina Head

We headed on down to Newport to check out the tide pools on Yaquina Head.  The whole area is a beautiful monument to what it means to be an Oregonian.

Nearby Yaquina Head is also stunning.

Down at the tide pools.  Unfortunately they often get sanded in and aren’t as productive as when they were originally created by the BLM as a wheelchair-accessible tide pool area.

Here’s where the water comes in and out.

Lots of big rocks here.  They once used to mine gravel.

On the beach looking north toward Yaquina Head and the lighthouse.

Ben Jones Bridge

The Ben Johnson Bridge is a beautiful little structure over a rocky inlet on a long-since-bypassed section of the Pacific Coast Highway.

It’s worth the detour to check out this bridge and beautiful view.

And there are some lovely views nearby, too.
