Afternoon in Newport

We popped over to Newport for the afternoon and to eat some crabs.  As always, the harbor in Newport was gorgeous in the afternoon light.

The NOAA flotilla by the OSU docks.

Just a few sea lions on the jetty!

There’s that iconic bridge.

OFF OFF OFF OFF!  Give us your pail, Jerold.  Give us your pail.

In case anyone forgets, Oregon is above California.

Drift Creek Falls Suspension Bridge

Heather and I headed out to the coast to hike down to Drift Creek Falls and the suspension bridge.  This is a popular hike and a great place to get out and experience a little bit of Oregon.

Down on Drift Creek.

The amazing suspension bridge.

This HUGE waterfall coming right out of the basalt cliff in the canyon gives the whole place a buzzing energy.

Looking up at the suspension bridge.

Further down the canyon with the waterfall and the suspension bridge all in one spot.  What an amazing place!

The roaring creek heading to the ocean.

Heather on the bridge above Drift Creek Falls.

After the hike, we went to Mo’s for lunch in Lincoln City.

The La De Da Parade in Yachats

We headed down to Yachats for the annual 4th of July La De Da Parade and festivities.  This is one of our favorite annual activities in Oregon.

The guy in the wizard hat is the mayor.  Everyone else is the town council.

The umbrella twirlers are always a popular part of the parade.

Here’s the Yachats PRIDE group!

Grass skirts coming by!

A weiner dog all dressed up.

More people coming through!

The green flash group coming through!  They always flash green on the 4th of July.

A huge rubber duck going by to remind everyone to buy their rubber duck race raffel tickets.

A big tyrannosaurus went by in front of the duck.

A bunch of umbrella jellyfish!

After the parade we went down to the Yachats River to watch the duck races.  We didn’t win this year but maybe next year!
