Ljubljana Castle

Kristen and I headed up the hill toward the old Ljubljana Castle.

Earlier bits of building recycled into the current structure.  The site has been occupied for thousands of years and probably once hosted a Roman fort of some sort.

IMG_0521

I wonder what used to be here.

If they fired the canon through this hole, it would hit the town.

Morning in Ljubljana

IMG_0512

We spent the morning wandering around the old town of Ljubljana.  It is an interesting mix of old and new.  Rather than what often happens in America, the old and new blend together very well in the Slovenian capital.

The crest of the city on a manhole cover.

IMG_0509

Someone wrapped individual strands of yarn up and down the street.  It was really interesting to walk under.

IMG_0508

More yarn down the street.

IMG_0505

In Ljubljana, more cowbell is always the answer.

I believe that this was city hall.

The Ruin Pubs of Budapest

IMG_0436

Budapest has an interesting series of pubs that have sprang up inside of old derelict buildings.  Many of them were neglected for decades and have fallen into ruins.  Thus the concept of the ruin pub was born.  Kristen found several good ruin pubs for us to go check out.

IMG_0437

There is usually a mix of eclectic art and ruined masonry in the ruin pubs.

Free wifi is available at most ruin pubs.  They seem like a nice place to do some mid-day work.
