Heading up to the top of the pass on the forest road, we encountered snow! If we had gone a week later through this area, Heather’s car probably wouldn’t have made it over the pass. It’s been snowing for the last week since we were out on this road.
Heather’s Name on a Rock!
With the river far below us, we pulled off to look for a view. No view was had but we did find something interesting.
There was a rock at one edge of the clearing by the pullout with Heather’s name carved on it! How lucky is that?!
We also found a weed whacker. This wasn’t really lucky so much as it was litter.
Elk Creek Falls
We stopped along the road at Elk Creek Falls. This is the main branch of the river near the road. The water was incredibly clear and beautiful.
The river was so incredibly blue and clear!
Looking down the side creek from the falls.
There were rocky bluffs on the other side of the main river from the road.
It was hard to get good photos of the rocky bluffs on the other side of the river due to the high contrast between the clouds and the trees. This video gives you a bit of an idea of what it looks like.
This little waterfall only runs in the winter.
The main falls. There are either two or three drops to these falls.
An overview of the falls.
A large overview of the main waterfall and the smaller seasonal waterfall. This is approximately a 180 degree horizontal view.
We found a partially consumed six pack of Coors Light sitting on the bench by the falls.
I decided against trying this left behind beer.
