The Northern Territory / Queensland Border

The last outpost of civilization before heading into the Northern Territory is the Camooweal Roadhouse.

A whole slew of road trains were lined up, waiting to go.

Queensland believes itself about five years ahead of Northern Territory.

In the middle of the road.  There were no other expeditions passing through on this day.

Anmatjere Family

Passing through Aileron we stumbled across the Anmatjere Family, an interesting art installation made by a local indigenous artist.  They are rather surreal looking after having crossed through the great flat of northern Australia.

Highway Patrol Unit

After hour upon hour of driving, we came upon a small settlement in the middle of the outback.  Several Highway Patrol Officers had setup a roadblock to breathalyse all drivers passing through.  I was driving and thus had the enviable position of providing this fine officer with a sample of my breath.  I passed with flying colours.  Prior to our departure, I asked for a photo with her and her squad car.  This is the first time that I’ve ever been pulled over.  I suspect that the three officers at the roadblock were the only sources of government authority between Alice Springs and Darwin.  As we pulled away, a road train was pulled over.  One of the other officer called across the highway for a ladder to climb up to the cab.
