ANZAC Bridge and around

Underneath a highway there are these odd light tree sculptures.  At night they turn on and glow a pleasant yellow.  It takes what would otherwise be a dingy place that one wouldn’t want to linger in to a place where you wish to stay and look at the artwork.

In Pyrmont.  The old buildings are beautiful.  The whole area is filled with interesting shops, trendy restaurants, and local corner pubs.

A park and a pier in Pyrmont.

The ANZAC Bridge.

Some big old rusted steel spheres in a riverfront park.  Perhaps these were buoys or mooring points?  Each is about 15 feet in diameter.

A military ship tied up on a forlorn pier.

More balls.

Looking at the ANZAC Bridge from an old quarry where most of the stone used to build Sydney came from.

A park along the old quarry cut.

A tree is growing down the rock face.

The underside of the ANZAC bridge.

The old bridge that the ANZAC Bridge replaced.

The way to work

The street that I live on in Ultimo.  Most housing that I’ve seen in the inner Sydney area is comprised of little two and three story buildings that are pressed up against each other.  I live in an apartment building which makes it unique compared to the other buildings nearby.  Everything else (like in the left side of this photo) is more townhouse style.

Heading down the hill toward one of the main roads and toward the University of Sydney.

In the mornings when I walk to work, I don’t see many other people.  It seems most don’t emerge from their houses until after about 9am.  I like to be out and about a little before 8am.  The sun rises at 6 or 6:30am so there is no reason not to be enjoying it.  Especially since it sets at 5pm!

Looking at Victoria Park across the highway from close to my office.  It’s a great green park to stroll through.

My office is just around the corner to the right.  Notice what side people are driving on?  Yeah, the wrong side.

Walking back home to Ultimo.  Downtown Sydney is where the skyscrapers are located.  Chinatown is in between me and downtown.

My apartment in Sydney

This is my bedroom.  My boss lent me some sheets.  Otherwise, everything else came with the room.

The living room.  There is a MASSIVE TV just barely in the photo on the right.  It is quite useful for watching the world cup.  To the left is where the toilet and shower are located (in separate rooms).

The kitchen and dining area.

Aside from me there are three other people living in the apartment at the moment but soon it will only be two as two of the roommates who share a room are going to leave and only one new roommate will be sought.  For eight weeks, this place isn’t too bad.
