Zion Canyon Overlook Trail

We headed up to the overlook trail on the east side of Zion Canyon on our way to Kanab.

The trail to the overlook is a pretty fun little route. There are some catwalks to cross.

Looking back toward the parking area and up the canyon.

Looking down into Zion Canyon.  The East Temple is to the right and the West Temple is across the valley.

Here we are!  In Zion!

Heading Up the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway

The road toward Kanab is blasted into the solid rock of the canyon walls as it climbs up and out of Zion.  That portal in the cliff face is on one of the switchbacks that is contained within the canyon wall.

Looking up toward the canyon rim to where the highway goes.

Big rocks all around us on this highway.

Getting higher up on the highway out of the canyon.

Looking back into Zion canyon from an overlook.

Zion – Dawn on the Virgin River

Our little camp along the Virgin River in Zion canyon gets sun late in the day because it’s so deep below the rim rock.

Dawn breaks on the rim high above Zion canyon!  That means it’s time to start up the stove and make some bacon.

It’s still dark on the north end of the canyon.

Our camp in the campground.  It was a great place to spend a few nights and witness a few dawns.

That warm November light spills into the canyon and makes the depths of the canyon warm.
