Heading Up the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway

The road toward Kanab is blasted into the solid rock of the canyon walls as it climbs up and out of Zion.  That portal in the cliff face is on one of the switchbacks that is contained within the canyon wall.

Looking up toward the canyon rim to where the highway goes.

Big rocks all around us on this highway.

Getting higher up on the highway out of the canyon.

Looking back into Zion canyon from an overlook.

Zion – A Walk Along the Virgin River

After pulling into the campground at the entrance to Zion Canyon and pitching our tent, we walked up the Virgin River path for a mile or so to one of the shuttle bus stops.

Huge views are everywhere in this amazing national park.

Aeons of geology all in a few thousand feet of sandstone rocks.

There was quite a bit of water coming down the Virgin River.
